It is an honor to be chosen and it got Christopher out of the orphanage. Christopher works really hard, but Blackthorn is kind and doesn't harm him, like so many other apothecaries do to their apprentices. But apothecaries are being murdered and it is getting closer to Blackthorns. When Blackthorn is murdered, Christopher must learn the key to a terrible secret, or their world will fall apart. Highly suspenseful, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. A great read.
