Pax is Peter's pet fox. He found him when he was just a kit and told his father he was keeping him. But life changes and Peter's father has signed up to serve his country. Peter is going to have to live with his grandfather. Alternating between Pax and Peter we find that Peter has to let his pet go and leave him. When he arrives at his grandfather's house he finds a very cranky old man. All he can do is think about Pax and how scared he must be. Pax is equally confused and has to learn about all the dangers of being alone. Peter decides to run away and find Pax. Pax is trying to get back to Peter.
