One of my favorite books of the year. This ti she remarkable story of Kara, her mother was convicted of the terrible crime of witchcraft when she was just six. When she gets older the people of her village aren't kind to her or her brother. Around their village is a woods that they refer to as the Thickety. Terrible things are supposed to be in the Thickety. But Kara follows a bird into the woods one day and discovers a book that might have belonged to her mother. The book has powers that amaze Kara.
